OLD STATE BANK HEADQUARTERS

925 Bank Street NE

Circa 1833

Built 190 years ago, the Old State Bank was erected in 1833 and stands as a reminder of Decatur’s rich history. The building originally housed the Tennessee Valley branch of the State Bank of Alabama. After the failure of the state bank, the building saw many varied uses and even survived the destruction of Decatur during the Civil War. Throughout its turbulent history, the Old State Bank has stood sentinel over the growing city of Decatur. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and is the oldest bank building in the state of Alabama. Today, it is preserved as a building of both historical and architectural significance. As one of the most photographed places in Decatur, the Old State Bank is a perfect backdrop for capturing memories. It is open to the public Monday-Friday and will serve as the main headquarters for this year’s tour of homes on December 9th.
