Catlett Ryan

Catlett-Ryan Home

213 Cherry Street NE

Located at 213 Cherry Street, the Catlett-Ryan home is a stunning two story brick Colonial Revival home built in 1936 for Robert Eads (R.E.) and Hortense Catlett. Mr. Catlett was a distributor of Gulf Refining Products. During World War II, Mr. Catlett served as chief clerk of the Decatur War Price and Rationing Board. The Catlett’s occupied this charming home for more than forty years. This gorgeous colonial home has a steeply pitched gable roof with a gable dormer and pediment windows on the second story. It portrays a beautiful front side porch deeply recessed behind an arcade which contains a shuttered double sash window. The entrance is surmounted by a unique broken pediment molding over the front door. Historical documents indicate this home was built by one of Alabama’s first female architects known for her work throughout Decatur, Carolyn Cortner Smith.

Current owners, Joe and Alicia Ryan, purchased this historic home in 2023. Since then, they have taken this house from great to extraordinary with an extensive renovation that took approximately one year to complete. The renovation included a new chef’s kitchen and butler’s pantry, the addition of a luxurious primary suite, multi car garage, laundry room, and powder room. This fabulous home now features a family room, sun room, dining room, 5 bedrooms and 3 and 1/2 luxurious baths. When visiting 213 Cherry Street, guests will be dazzled by the home’s interior furnishings and hand painted tiles. This home will be exquisitely decorated for Christmas with magical Christmas trees, awe-inspiring nativities, a Christmas village, and much more. The Catlett-Ryan home is a must see on this year’s Christmas tour.
