Decatur Methodist Church

701 Oak Street NE

Tour guests are invited to explore this magnificent historic church on this year’s Historic Decatur Christmas Tour. Visitors will experience the re-creation of Christ’s birth with the presentation of a special live nativity scene. Decatur Methodist will also feature children’s choir performances during the tour. This church, originally known as Decatur First Presbyterian Church, has been part of Decatur since 1853. The original building, located on the SE corner of Bank and Church streets, was dismantled in 1864 during the Civil War by the Union Army. The church was eventually rebuilt in its current location on Oak Street. Over the years, the church has seen several building projects culminating in the Christopher Wren style sanctuary in 1953, with additional expansions in 1978. Decatur Methodist Church was officially formed in 2023 marking a new chapter for this beloved church building. Step inside this historic sanctuary on December 13th and reflect on the enduring legacy of faith that has shaped this church and community for generations.
