Vintage Faith Church
411 Sherman Street SE
The story of Vintage Faith Church begins in 1898 when a mission organization from New York constructed the original structure as a congregational church. Sadly, the denomination struggled to take root in Decatur. In 1901, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church acquired the building. A pivotal meeting in February 1901 saw twelve dedicated members voting to purchase the church and land for $1,600. After its dedication on March 17, 1901, St. Paul’s embraced its new home. The church underwent major renovations in 1951, adding a basement and reorienting the entrance from Sherman Street to 4th Avenue, a testament to the congregation’s growth and evolving needs.
In 1968, St. Paul’s relocated to a larger facility. Elizabeth Vickery and her husband then purchased the church, giving rise to Christ’s Mission. For over 34 years, their ministry offered food and clothing to those in need, while fostering a sense of community and compassion. Following Mrs. Vickery’s ownership, the church was sold to Don Thomas. He continued the legacy of renting it as a house of worship. In 2006, he met with the founding members of Vintage Faith Church, agreeing to keep the church’s spirit alive. By 2015, Vintage Faith officially bought the building, welcoming a new era under the guidance of Pastor Robbie Stofel, who led until his move to Tennessee in 2021. Today, Pastor Brad Eades carries on this rich tradition of faith and service.
